Hello New here and just working everything out - very much a late starter. I'm a bit of an oldie (60) with some spare cash. I am thinking of buying an ETF in my name for each of my four grandchildren, which I will gift to them when they each reach 18 or when I die, whichever comes first. Can I do this? If so, how do I do this? Any recommendations for an ETF? Appreciate any feedback, thank you :-)

Hey pearlers, Another dumb question that you have heard a million times, I'm sure! but related to DRP, if in (settings > share settings and dividends > and flicked dividends payments enabled). Will this feature grab all dividends from my holdings and re-invest into my shares?? Sorry it sounds self-explanatory but just was curious on how this worked. Thankyou!

When buying ETFs, do I need to buy the entire unit? For example, IVV is selling $625 per share. When I set up autoinvest do I need to have the funds to buy an entire unit, or will my autoinvest simply buy a percentage of a unit each time?

Asking here as I'm probably not the only one wondering (or am I?) but if I've borrowed money to invest in an ETF, and the interest is deductible, where do I put it when I fill out my tax return? Does it go in box 13Y as it relates to the ETF? Or is that box only for the fund to use if they have deductions claimable there? Do I use a different deductions box?

Dave Here, I would like to say I'm excited about joining the Pearler family, I'm not working at the moment I work in the mines sites around WA and around Australia and since I jumped into the Pearler family my hunger for knowledge to actually make the an income between jobs it's fantastic I've only just to do transactions still pretty nervous but it's definitely got me if anybody has the time I would like to start chatting and meeting the family. What are everyone’s thoughts on ASICs recent ruling around online financial discussions (https://asic.gov.au/regulatory-resources/financial-services/giving-financial-product-advice/discussing-financial-products-and-services-online/)? Could it extend to this type of forum or handing out our Pearler referral code? Having gotten into investing later in life than I’d (in hindsight) would prefer to have, the wealth of information out there now has been a massive help. I don’t feel like it existed years ago outside big financial/investment institutions or published works such as “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”. While I’m sure some of the discussions on the internet today are influenced by referrals or other biased ideas, at least the conversations are (were) being freely had.

I'm trying to work my way through finding companies in Australia to invest in who have small revenue ($10-20 million) with the objective of investing long term. There are so many small businesses that have the potential to grow and thrive, but given that there are over 2000 shares to search through, it's hard to sift through every company to find what I'm looking for. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this?

Hi There When I first started investing I bought shares in VDHG and ETHI just to get some skin in the game. After I bought the first few units I decided to go down a different route and now my portfolio is made up of a A200/VGS/VGE split to try diversify my portfolio. (Still holding the initial VDHG and ETHI units) Is there any benefit to my split compared to VDHG as a whole? I don't think it's necessary to sell anything off at this point and rebalance (Happy to be wrong). I just want to set & forget at this stage while I work my way through things and have a core portfolio that does the majority of the work Thank-you

I’m using auto invest with the lowest share strategy. Is it possible to exclude one of my holdings temporarily, or permanently so that no further purchases are made in this stock, but I still hold the stock?

I am confused about whether I need to fill out the W8-BEN form for ETFs such as VTS (US domiciled), I also own VGS, NDQ, IOO. I thought that if I bought ETFs on ASX, even though they track US market, I don't need to. Computershare enquiry says yes I do, Commsec says no. I am using more than 1 broker, so do I need a form for each broker?

Hi, I’m fairly new to investing and this is a dumb question but what is the difference when investing in the AU shares vs US shares tab? Is it that the AU shares are funds held by brokers in Aus and the US one is US brokers? Is there a better option for an Aus investor? Hi fellow pearlers Me(27) and my wife(29) have a joint investment account where we set aside 5k a month and invest fortnightly into the following etfs A200 50% IVV. 35% NDQ. 5% VEU. 10% We've tested the waters with VAS , VGS, VGE and SPY before finalizing on the above portfolio. Question to the extended community here. Is it worthwhile expanding to the following satellite etfs IJP VAP IJR ETHI IXJ WDMF Also just trying to understand the value of having divident focused etfs(such as WDMF. I have DRP for all my current etfs and aim to sustain the current portfolio(36k) till we retire. Hopefully increasing income and investments going ahead. Im also the nominee to my parents mutual funds as well as am inheriting some assets overseas, not sure how that works with this plan as well. Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance!!

My wife and I have half our investment portfolio in VAS Vanguard Australian Shares Index ETF and half in VGS Vanguard MSCI Index International Shares ETF. We are wondering if we should now look to add a third ETF to our portfolio being US shares such as the VOO S&P 500 Vanguard ETF. We are wondering if this is a solid path forward, or should we go in a different direction. Thanks in advance :-)

Hello - I am early in my investing journey switched from Raiz about a year ago and went with two ETFs and two companies I was willing to 'gamble' on. Anyway, with my ETFs one is VDHG - now whenever I look at other ETFs that I might want to invest in I am like 'what's the point' because they are generally covered in the VDHG make up. My question is - is it pointless - should I just keep directing my $$ into my current ETFs or for example would it not 'hurt' to include something like ETHI or any other similar more specific ETF?

Thoughts on why DZZF isn't more popular given its combo of FAIR and ETHI at a much lower management fee? I have been investing in this instead of buying shares in the separate etfs but am a little concerned by the low growth in funds under management. The 10% inclusion of green bonds may not suit people wanting a purely growth etf but for I figure it isn't a bad way to include some defensive assets to help balance my portfolio. Please don't judge me by my pearler portfolio I invest across a couple of brokerage platforms.
