I'm new to Australia and just started my investing. My employer wants me to pick a super fund, but I'm not sure where to start. Any advice? I'm 25 years old and my goal is to reach Financial Independence by 40.

Hey everyone. My partner (34F) and I (37M) are looking to buy our first property, but we're unsure whether to go for a home to live in (PPOR) or an investment property (IP). We're currently renting in eastern suburbs Melbourne and like the area, so we're not in a rush to own a home, though we'd like to have one eventually. We’ve put $60k into the FHSSS, intending to buy a PPOR, and we’ll have about $150k as a deposit. Our options are: - Buy a PPOR to take advantage of FHSSS and government benefits, live in it for the required period, then rent it out. - Skip the first home buyer benefits and purchase an IP in a more affordable area, while continuing to rent where we are. We don’t have plans for kids, so security isn’t a big concern. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm moving overseas soon and am looking for investment strategies. My goal is to cover living expenses and let compound interest work for me and bring in some kind of yield. I’ve considered real estate because of the leverage and potential tax credits if I move back to Australia, but it seems complicated with too many variables. Another option is investing in fully franked dividend stocks for tax benefits as a non-resident. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, I’m in my mid-30s, new to ETFs, and looking for a long-term (20–30 years), low-fee, dividend-reinvesting portfolio. After doing some research, I'm looking to have ~60% US and ~25% AU and rest in other economies. I'm considering: - 65% DHHF for diversification and lower fees - 35% IVV for US exposure and low fees Since I'm already getting ~20% in Tech, I don't believe I need to add NDQ. Any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks!

Hi all. I've been working towards a debt recycling strategy and am now at the point of redrawing from my split loan and investing into a chosen EFT. One thing I wanted to check with the group was whether the fact that the split loan is in both my wife's and my name would impact the tax benefits gained on my tax return. Does the fact that the loan is held by both is us mean that I cannot claim the full tax offset on my individual tax return. Thanks !

Hey everyone! I'm finally starting to build my core ETF portfolio. I've been investing in individual stocks for over 10 years but feel it’s time to focus on ETFs for the long term. With less time to research stocks and a few bad picks along the way, ETFs seem like a better fit now. I’m looking at simple options like ETFs by Vanguard or similar ones that cover key areas (e.g., Australian and international shares). Has anyone found a specific ETF whose distributions tax wise are generally more capital gains weighted? I’d prefer to offset some carried-forward losses rather than having dividend distributions that I will be taxed on. VAS and portfolio options like VDHG look solid for their low fees and good performance, but as far as I can see don't generally distribute a larger capital gains portion? If there isn't any one etf ot two standing out then so be it. I just thought I’d ask!

I’ve been investing for a year and decided to use a tax advisor to make sure my return is filed correctly. After sharing various reports, they suggested I register with Sharesight for more specific info, like year-end distribution statements for my ETFs (VAS, etc). Is using a third party like this necessary, or is there an easier way to access the details needed for the ATO?

I'm in my early 20s and my current portfolio is 100% VDHG. I understand the differences between VDHG and DHHF and think DHHF aligns better with my future goals, so I plan to start buying into DHHF without selling my existing VDHG holdings. I've also been looking into QUAL for its potential long-term growth and would like it as a smaller addition alongside VDHG and DHHF. Any advice on combining these three? **Hello everyone,** We hope this finds you all well! We’d love some advice from the group. Recently, we read *Strong Money Australia* by Dave Gow (thank you, Dave!) and feel like we’ve finally found the investment strategy we’ve been searching for over the past 10+ years. We’re fully committed to investing in ETFs—primarily VDHG with a smaller percentage in DHHF—and are in the process of selling an investment property to kickstart this plan. Now, we’re trying to decide between investing the entire amount upfront or taking a blended approach: investing half (~$250,000) initially and dollar-cost averaging (DCA) the remaining $250,000 over the next six months, alongside starting automated monthly ETF investments. Would the main opportunity cost here be the potential six months of DRP gains we’d miss out on if we don’t invest the full $500,000 right away? Are there any other considerations we should keep in mind? It feels a bit overwhelming to invest such a substantial amount all at once, but if it helps bring our F.I.R.E. date forward by even six months, it’s something we’re definitely willing to consider. Hi there, I am trying to build a portfolio for emerging markets.So far I narrowed my options to two cases: 1) 100% EMKT with 0.69% fee!!!; 2) 50% VGE with 0.48% fee and 50% Asia with 0.67% fee Asia has done pretty well in the past but does not have the rest of the world, that is why I reckon I need to combin eit with VGE. Beside EMKT has a pretty low market cap compare to the other two? Do you have any opinion?
