Buying ETFs to benefit grandchildren

Hello New here and just working everything out - very much a late starter. I'm a bit of an oldie (60) with some spare cash. I am thinking of buying an ETF in my name for each of my four grandchildren, which I will gift to them when they each reach 18 or when I die, whichever comes first. Can I do this? If so, how do I do this? Any recommendations for an ETF? Appreciate any feedback, thank you :-)

Hi Kathleen,

What a lovely gesture this is 😊

You have the ability to set up all four minor accounts for your grandchildren under just the one login, as they will all be attached to the same adult (you).

It’s basically set up as a bare trust, where the assets are held in the name of the guardian/adult as trustee for the child. You will need to supply the birth certificate of each minor as part of the account application process.

Head to your drop-down menu in the top right-hand corner of your screen to add each new account and switch between them.

You are also able to edit the display name of each account to distinguish between them easily.

It may be helpful for you to check out an exchange post that discusses whether to use your own TFN or your granchild’s .

In terms of ETFs, we obviously proudly encourage them. There are many to choose from though and really depends on your expectations and interests. A good place to start on the platform would be to have a look at our Invest > Shares page that is sorted by popularity as a default. We also have a range of community profiles to browse where people share their own investment journeys.
