Have you ever downgraded the home you wanted to buy in order to reach financial independence (FI) faster? For example, I’d love to own a $1.5 million home, but taking on that level of debt alone feels stressful and limiting. Currently, I live in an affordable home that could work as a rental, but it’s not where I want to stay long-term. Selling it would only cover a small portion of the cost of a $1.5 million home. I’d love to hear your thoughts on choosing a primary residence (PPOR) and strategies for affording a more expensive home without pushing back your FI goals, particularly for those who are single.

Debt recycling is typically used as a strategy to convert non-deductible debt (like home mortgage) into deductible investment debt. When it comes to an investment property, the debt is already tax-deductible (due to negative gearing, for example), so would debt recycling be as necessary? Scenario: • One receives $10k from a tax return due to the negative gearing of an investment property. • Plan to split this into $5k for an emergency fund (placed in an offset account) and $5k for ETF share investing. • The loan is already split into two (one large, one small). Considerations: • Deposit-Redraw-Invest: deposit the $5k into the smaller loan, redraw it, and then invest in shares. • Direct Investment: simply invest the $5k into ETFs. Open for discussions. : )

I earn $60k a year and have under $20k in super. A friend suggested I max out my yearly super contributions. Can you please explain how it helps me now or in the future? Are contributions tax-deductible? Any reasons I shouldn't max out? I'm 28, single, and an international student working towards residency with no other investments or entitlements.

Hi there, I’m currently using Dividend Reinvestment Plans through Computershare to automatically reinvest my dividends, but I’m considering having dividends paid into a cash account and manually reinvesting them instead. Which option is cheaper in terms of fees? I don’t mind the extra step of manual reinvesting if it saves on costs, but if fees are similar, I’d prefer the simplicity of DRP. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

I invest into pearler micro by monthly auto-debit from my bank account. My employer allows salary splitting into multiple account. Since pearler creates an AUD cash account for us, I was wondering if I can get a part of my salary directly deposited into the pearler cash account and auto invested. I asked the pearler support chat the same question but their answer was - "Currently Pearler account can only accept deposits form a users own Bank account, For compliance reasons, we don't generally encourage depositing from multiple different bank accounts". I was wondering if this is just a compliance thing or a hard rule? Has anyone tried this?

My investment platform provides numerous reports. But how do you read them to make sure you are comparing apples with apples? The Gain/Loss report appears to just be based on growth and is for the entire period of investment while the Performace report includes yield and can be viewed for discrete periods.

Hi everyone, I’m 25 and new to investing. I’m putting aside $1,000 a month, mostly into A200 because it seems diversified and reliable. I have a few questions: - Is sticking with A200 fine, or should I diversify into other ETFs? - What should I consider when investing, especially without a clear goal? - My portfolio is 80% A200 and 20% CBA. Hey everyone, Hoping for some quick advice. A family member who can’t work due to illness has received an inheritance—enough to buy a small apartment, with some cash left to invest. VDHG seems like a solid "set and forget" option to grow wealth, but in this case, a high-dividend ETF seems more appropriate. The goal is to generate income without needing to sell down the investment—a simple solution where dividends are used as income is ideal. Tax isn't a major concern as the income generated (around $150k-$250k invested) will be under the tax-free threshold. I’m leaning towards VAS as it appears a bit safer compared to VHY, which offers a higher yield but may be more volatile. Does that sound about right? Are there any other funds or products that might be a good fit for this situation? Thanks for your help!

Hi everyone! I'm invested in VAS, VSO, and VGS, and I'm setting up an auto-investment. I save $900 weekly and plan to invest $500 fortnightly: $200 in VGS, $200 in VSO, and $100 in VAS. Given the annual fees (VAS: 0.1%, VSO: 0.3%, VGS: 0.18%), should I switch to quarterly investments to reduce fees? Any advice would be appreciated!

I’m 40 and I am new to investing and interested in longer term growth. I’m starting off with 2k and can put in about 1k a month. I understand that VDHG is an all in one with a higher MER and bond exposure than a 70/30 split of VGS/VAS. I am hoping to ‘set and forget’ with little admin on my side. The VGS/VAS split seems to provide more flexibility but I am well aware that I don’t have the most time/knowledge. Does the VGS/VAS split have the same tax issues as VDHG? Do VGS/VAS include bonds, or would I need to get an bonds etf in addition? Is there a comparison I can see that compare VDHG vs a VGS/VAS 70/30 split of performance over time?

My partner and I (in our thirties) just moved to Sydney from Europe and received our full pension payouts, around $80k AUD each. We’re deciding whether to invest in super or in ETFs. Can we transfer this lump sum into super, and is that a good idea? Would putting it in super cause issues if we leave Australia in the future? Thanks for any advice!
