DiaMedica Therapeutics Inc. is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company. Its lead candidate DM199 (rinvecalinase alfa) is the first pharmaceutically active recombinant (synthetic) form of the human tissue kallikrein-1 (KLK1) protein to be clinically studied in patients. KLK1 is an established therapeutic modality in Asia, with human urinary KLK1, for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke and cardio renal disease, including hypertension. KLK1 is a serine protease, or protein, produced primarily in the kidneys, pancreas and salivary glands. KLK1 plays a critical role in the regulation of local blood flow and vasodilation in the body, as well as an important role in reducing inflammation and oxidative stress.
