A 'share registry' is an organisation that, on behalf of a company, manages the registry of shareholders for that company. The registry has the following responsibilities:

  • Recording changes in share ownership

  • Issuing shareholding statements

  • Manages dividend payments, bonuses and rights issues.

You'll likely receive notifications from the share registry regarding your dividends, other corporate actions and account updates.

Why am I receiving all this paperwork?

It may take up to 2 weeks for the initial investment into a new ETF or company to be registered with the share registry.

There are three main share registry companies in Australia - Computershare, MUFG (formerly Link Market Services) and BoardRoom.

Most ETF providers streamline their operations by appointing a single share registry to manage their ETFs. For instance, Vanguard uses Computershare for all its ETFs.

You can view the responsible registry for each of your ASX direct investments by clicking on it from your Dashboard and finding the Dividend reinvestment section as shown below.

If the share registry is not listed there, you can also head to www.asx.com.au and search for the company by code or name using the search bar. The Share registry information can then be found at the bottom-right of the page.

Here are some tips for setting up a login for the two main share registries in Australia 👇

Computershare

  1. Log into Computershare or register a new account with your Pearler account details and Holder Identification Number (HIN). E.g. If you have invested in VAS, you would enter this in the "Select a company you own shares in" section.

MUFG (Formerly Link Market Services)

  1. Log into MUFG Investor Centre or register your portfolio to create your login.

If you are registering, you will be prompted to enter your personal details.

Then once you have logged in, add holdings with your Pearler account details and Holder Identification Number (HIN).

Example:

After you have entered your HIN, you can add your holdings.

Example: If you have a Betashares ETF, such as A200, NDQ, DHHF, etc., you can type and select the Betashares option.
