The Company is focused on the acquisition, ownership and operation of self-storage properties located primarily within the top 100 metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) throughout the United States and Canada. Its segments include self storage operations and the Managed REIT Platform business. The Company, through its subsidiary, SmartStop REIT Advisors, LLC, also sponsors other self-storage programs. It owns or manages a portfolio of approximately 229 operating properties in 23 states, the District of Columbia, and Canada, comprising 164,300 units and 18.4 million rentable square feet. The Company and its affiliates own or manage 43 operating self-storage properties in Canada, which total approximately 36,400 units and 3.7 million rentable square feet.
