πŸ”Ž Fund Overview

BHP's mission is to "bring people and resources together to build a better world".

BHP STOCK Overview

BHP Group Ltd is one of the world's largest natural resources mining companies. It involves the extraction and processing of multiple commodities including iron ore, copper, coal, nickel, and potash. Founded in 1885, the company is headquartered in Melbourne and has 90 locations around the world. Most of its mines and gas fields are in Australia and South America.Β Β

BHP makes money by extracting and selling commodities, mostly rare earth metals. Its most important segments are: - **Iron ore**: This segment is involved in iron ore production. It is currently the largest and most lucrative segment of BHP. It usually accounts for ~35-45% of the company's revenue. BHP is also highly efficient in mining iron and is the lowest-cost iron producer in the world. Thanks to this, its operating margins are well above 50% in this segment. Its iron ore operations are primarily located in Western Australia. - **Copper**: This segment is involved in the extraction and processing of copper and is the second-largest segment in terms of revenue. BHP owns multiple copper mines, including the Escondida mine in Chile, which is the world's largest copper-producing mine. - **Coal**: BHP is involved in extracting both metallurgical coal (used in steelmaking) and energy coal (used for power generation). Recently, it has been investing heavily in sustainable coal mining to reduce greenhouse emissions. Most of its coal mines are in Queensland and New South Wales. - **Other**: A small portion of revenue also comes from selling nickel, potash, and other minor commodities.
