Finding my financial footing in my forties. Starting without debt but also without income producing assets. Wanting to build a portfolio to retire comfortably. My partner got burnt in the sharemarket before (buying ‘hot’ shares that fizzled) so he’s happy for me to take the reins. I’m excited to learn all I can, invest regularly and leave it to work for a couple of decades! My eldest son is 15 and has had shown an interest in finance for a few years now. Am going to set up a portfolio for him with birthday and Christmas money, he’s got $750 ready to invest! He’s requested 1/2 into the S&P 500 and 1/2 into the ASX. I love that he’s learning now what I wished I knew at his age!

Initially I’m planning on buying a few LICs to dip my toes in. Then I’m thinking of investing in three or four ETFs to get a diverse long term investment portfolio! I will probably pick up a few different Australian shares in individual companies, ones that I use and believe in.
