Thoughts on my ETF & super strategy

Investing Strategy

Hi Pearler community, I’d love to get your thoughts on my current investment strategy. I’m 31 years old and just started my investment journey about a month ago. I've been living in Australia for 3 years and recently got my PR. Now that I’m earning a comfortable income, my strategy is to salary sacrifice $200 a week into my super (to catch up a bit, since I only started contributing at 28), and I’ve switched my fund to High Growth. On top of that, I opened a Pearler account where I initially invested around $5K. I’m now automating weekly transfers of $350. My auto-invest is set to purchase one ETF at a time when the balance hits $1,300. Here’s how my portfolio is split: 60% VGS (World) 20% VAS (Australia) 10% VGE (Emerging Markets) 10% VISM (Small Caps) My plan is to leave this money untouched for the next 15 to 20 years. Do you reckon this is a solid long-term strategy? Best, Tim

Hi Timothy.

That all makes a lot of sense to me mate and there’s honestly nothing to really point out. It sounds like you’ve already done a fair bit of research and have thought carefully about how to invest going forward.

All the best with it!

Hi Dave, thanks a lot for taking the time to reply 🙏

Since my initial message, I’ve made a slight adjustment to my portfolio targets to better reflect my long-term approach:

VGS (Vanguard MSCI International Shares ETF): 45%

IVV (S&P US 500 ETF): 20%

VAS (Vanguard Australian Shares Index ETF): 10%

VGE (Vanguard FTSE Emerging Markets ETF): 10%

VISM (Vanguard MSCI International Small Companies ETF): 15%

I feel this gives me a strong balance across Australia, the US, developed markets, emerging markets, and small caps.

Appreciate your feedback and encouragement!

Best,

Tim
