Real Estate ETF or Conservative ETF?
Investing Strategy
I’m looking to begin investing, but don’t have much capital to start right away. I’ve read a bit about Real Estate focused ETF’s, but not sure if they are the best place to start. Can I get some insights into this? I’m looking at a long term investment

Listed property is almost all commercial property, not residential property that you might think of when talking of property. Commercial property is very often packaged as a REIT (real estate investment trust) and there are a couple of ETFs that package these up (MVA, VAP neither of which I have used). There are also smaller LICs (listed investment companies) like MRE and CWP. In addition to renting out commercial property, there are businesses lending to property businesses and there are LICs (eg MXT) and ETFs (RMBS).
Just giving you more options rather than fewer to choose from. Maybe one style will be more to your liking.

Hey Vincent.
There’s no real right or wrong place to start.
Most Pearler investors tend to invest in index funds like those which track the ASX 300 (Aussie market) or the S&P 500 for example (US market). But if you would prefer to focus on a real estate ETF, there are a few of those out there too.
Just keep in mind that there’s nothing particular special about a real estate fund that will protect you if the market goes down – it will go down also. And by focusing on a real estate ETF you are concentrating your money on just one sector – whereas an index fund will spread your money across lots of sectors.

All the best,
