I am 21, in Australia. How should I get started?

Investing Strategy

Hi, I am new to investing and am a bit lost honestly. I'd like to get some advice on getting started investing with Pearler: What to invest in. When to invest. How much to invest. I currently work at an ALDI, and am planning on doing Doordash as a side hustle, any tips to make it easier for me to build a bigger portfolio? Thank you.

Hi Maor, welcome!

As for what to invest in, I’d look at the most popular options inside the Pearler community, which are listed on the Shares page. These are typically sensible diversified options that fit long term investing – https://pearler.com/explore/invest/shares?&ex=asx

Have a read about each of them and decide how you’d like to invest. Most of us choose some combination of Aussie and global/US shares, and usually they are ETFs.

As for when to invest, I like to do it monthly as this gives you something to look forward to each month and builds momentum but doesn’t mean tons spent on brokerage. If you can save at least $500 per month, monthly is a good option.

As for how much to invest… well, generally as much as possible, or as much as you’re comfortable with, while also allowing for keeping an emergency fund etc to cover against any personal financial hiccups you might face from time to time.

As for how to build a bigger portfolio faster, this typically comes down to increasing earnings, decreasing expenses and saving lots of cash to keep accumulating assets. I wrote an article on this here – https://pearler.com/learn/read/how-to-grow-yo...

Hope this helps and all the best!

Dave
