PayTo (Scheduled Deposits) FAQs
What is PayTo?
PayTo is a new, modern payment method in Australia that offers greater control and transparency over your recurring payments. It's designed to replace and improve upon traditional direct debit.
Traditionally, direct debits would take 1-2 days for funds to arrive, and was more susceptible to fraud. PayTo changes this by allowing instant payments, and customer control from the comfort of their bank’s app or website.
Why has my automation been switched from direct debit to PayTo?
Previously, auto-deposits were done using direct debit. This is an old technology with slow payments (taking 1-2 days to settle funds), and more susceptible to fraud.
In order to ensure instant payments, and reduce the risk of fraud, we have switched all new automations to use PayTo. This includes when a person creates a new automation, or edits an existing automation.
Can I switch back to using direct debit?
We are strictly reserving direct debit for people whose bank account is with an institution which does not support PayTo yet. If your banking institution supports PayTo, and your bank account is eligible to use PayTo, any automation you create will have to use PayTo.
In most cases, if your bank does not support PayTo, your automation will automatically select to use direct debit instead of PayTo. If your automation is failing to create or send a PayTo agreement to your bank account, please contact our support team to assist you.
How do I accept a PayTo agreement?
Usually you should receive a notification via email, SMS or in-app notification about the PayTo agreement.
However, if you have not received anything, please find your bank in the list below, and follow the relevant instructions to find and accept the PayTo agreement.
