ETF correlation ratios in our DIY portfolio?
To assess correlation between ASX-listed ETFs, I’m surprised I couldn’t find any quick & easy tool like https://www.etfscreen.com/correlation.php (working for US-listed ETFs only, like all the other tools I’ve found). Has someone ever found a similar free tool for the ASX? If not, is it part of Pearler’s roadmap? Given the strategic importance of diversification to reduce risk & improve performance, by avoiding overlap & excessive concentration. Especially as Pearler now gives the (great!) ability to choose our own ETFs for our superannuation. As these must be chosen even more wisely, such a tool has become critical for informed portfolio design IMHO. With this, Pearler would not only democratise passive investing further but also better empower us to manage our investments autonomously & effectively!

Understanding the correlation between different ETFs is indeed crucial for effective portfolio diversification. Unfortunately, finding tools that specifically analyze the correlation of ASX-listed ETFs can be challenging, as many available tools focus primarily on US-listed ETFs.
While I’m not aware of a specific tool within the Australian market that matches the functionality of etfscreen.com for ASX-listed ETFs, using Pearler’s Comparison Feature can be a beneficial step towards making informed decisions. You might like to try this though: https://www.marketindex.com.au/asx-etfs
Although it doesn’t directly measure correlation, this feature allows you to compare various aspects of different ETFs side by side. This can help you understand differences in their composition, sectors, performance metrics, and other key factors that influence how these ETFs might behave relative to each other in different market conditions.
You can open this comparison tool via any asset’s page, and then select the ETF you want to compare it with. Try it here: https://pearler.com/explore/invest/au-shares/...
In terms of the roadmap, Pearler continuously aims to enhance its platform and tools to better serve its users in making informed investment decisions. The suggestion to include a correlation analysis tool is certainly valuable and it could be worth seeing if there is a similar request on Pearler’s community feature request board here: https://pearler.com/explore/community/feature... (or adding your request!)
Pearler is committed to democratizing investing and providing tools that help investors manage their portfolios autonomously and effectively. Your feedback is invaluable for shaping future enhancements and ensuring the platform meets the evolving needs
