Is Hub24 a good platform?

A financial advisor set me up on HUB24. Over time I realized that he had set me up in managed funds that had much higher fees than ETFs etc. I have almost completely moved to ETFs and LICs so should I move to Commsec or similar? Just wondering whether HUB24 is worth it as they do charge fees.

When considering whether to switch investment platforms, it’s important to weigh several factors, including fees, the range of investment options available, ease of use, and the specific features that each platform offers that may be beneficial to your investment strategy.

  1. Fees: As you’ve noted, fees are a crucial factor in choosing an investment platform. Over time, higher fees can significantly erode investment returns. Platforms like HUB24 often charge fees for their services, which might be higher compared to direct brokerage platforms like CommSec or Pearler. It’s essential to compare the fee structures of both platforms to see which one offers a more cost-effective solution for your investment needs.
  2. Investment Options: While HUB24 provides access to a wide range of managed funds, ETFs, and other investment options, platforms like Pearler or CommSec typically offer a broad array of direct investment options, including shares, ETFs, and LICs. If your investment strategy has shifted towards directly managing your investments in ETFs and LICs, a platform that facilitates this with lower fees and more direct market access might be more suitable.
  3. Ease of Use and Features: Each platform has different user interfaces and features. Some might offer more sophisticated tools and analytics, which can be beneficial if you’re actively managing your investments. Consider which platform aligns better with your need for information, ease of transactions, and overall user experience.

Given these considerations, if your investment strategy now leans more towards ETFs and you are concerned about high fees diminishing your returns, exploring a platform known for lower transaction costs and direct market access like Pearler or CommSec could be beneficial. However, it’s essential to review each platform’s specific offerings and ensure they align with your investment goals and strategies.

Pearler, for instance, is designed w

Hi G F.

As an individual investor buying LICs and ETFs, you’ve now realised that, in most cases, there’s no need for expensive funds, expensive platforms, and expensive advisors.

What benefit are you getting from the platform that you couldn’t get with a low cost broker?

Platforms like HUB 24 are essentially what advisors use as it’s useful for them to manage with lots of managed funds, shares, etc all in the one spot. But if you’ve moved away from the advisor, then it makes less sense to use a wrap platform like that.

Granted, I don’t know all the details of your situation, but those are just some outside thoughts.

All the best.

Hi G Force,

My name is Nick and I’m a cofounder of Pearler, thanks for asking this one.

We are building our own chat tech to help answer questions that are a little more detailed in nature, we train them on our own content with a view to matching the Pearler philosophy or simple, cost effective wealth management – whilst the answer is generated by a bot, it’s reviewed and edited by our team to ensure it not only adds value, but aligns to our philosophy.

I personally reviewed this one before it was published and found it covered the topic in a pretty decent way, for what is intended to be a general discussion forum without the typical emotive language we’ve become accustomed to on other more general forums.

I think you’re asking a key question, but if you want a more detailed response this is something that you’re really only going to get from your adviser. I would be asking them to give a cost / benefit analysis of Hub24 (including buy/sell spreads etc on the funds listed) vs ETFS that provide an equivalent exposure on self-management on platforms like ours that don’t have ongoing fees.

All the best,

Nick
