What is Investor Centre?

First Time Investor

Hi! Like most people, I’m new to investing and recently bought some VAS. I received a letter from Computershare Investor Centre requesting I login to investorcentre.com and add in my details and provide TFN. Can someone explain what this is and is it legit? Why do I have create a separate account from Pearler? It feels like a scam so I wanted to ask about it

Hi Phuong, great question.

First, yes it’s legit, and yes it’s also annoying/confusing. Computershare is what’s known as a ‘share registry’.

Share registries work on behalf of companies/funds and they handle the admin side of dividend payments and reinvestment plans.

They’re like a middleman so the company doesn’t have to do this extra admin stuff themselves.

When you create an account with the share registry, it is simply for admin purposes. You won’t be investing on there or moving any money around. You basically just give them instructions of where you want your dividends to be paid, and where you’d like company information to be sent, and other stuff like that.

The TFN is a requirement unfortunately so that all the info lines up with the ATO and it also helps ensure that all your dividend information then becomes automatically pre-filled for you at tax time, which is quite handy.

Hope that makes sense.
Dave
