Investing only in DHHF v 2-3 ETF's

Hey everyone, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed and am seeking advice on my investment strategy. Should I invest all of my cash into a single diversified fund like DHHF, or would it be better to spread my investment across a few different ETFs? What approach would be more advantageous for long-term growth? All advice is appreciated.

Hi Shania, great question.

Firstly, when you’re feeling overwhelmed it’s typically best to try and simplify things as much as you can. I find that can help clear away some of the confusion and make it easier to move forward.

As a general answer to your question, having one diversified ETF is a perfectly valid option for long term investing. The management fees are slightly higher, but you’re getting the convenience of multiple ETFs inside one simple share.

Having multiple ETFs instead of just one can mean more admin + things to manage, but it can give you more control over how much you invest in each market (like US vs Australia for example). If that’s important to you and you’d like to have that amount of flexibility, then multiple ETFs might be better.

But if you aren’t really a ‘control freak’ in that sense, and you like the diversified ETFs on offer such as DHHF, then I think starting off with that can make a lot of sense. Later on, you can always choose to add more things if you feel the need. But to be honest, it is designed as an entire portfolio in one, so there’s very little need or advantage to doing so.

Hope that helps.
Dave
